Pregnant woman, two children charred to death

DAPORIJO, Feb 11: A pregnant woman along with her two daughters was charred to death while six others received partial burn injury in a devastating fire accident at Sigin colony Daporijo yesterday.
The fire which broke out at around 10.45 pm also burnt down 34 houses and damaged 21 partially rendering 108 families homeless. The properties lost and damaged in the mishap has not been assessed yet which is likely to cross crores of rupees.
The victims have been identified as Yaw Siyum (27), mother, Bonga Siyum (5) and Prety Siyum (18 months) daughters. Other six injured were rushed to hospital for the treatment.
The cause of the fire is not yet known. However, public suspects candle light behind the mishap.
It is worth mentioning here that every household in the colony use candle due to frequent power cut.
Upper Subansiri Deputy Commissioner Tahang Taggu visited the colony and alleged improper electrification in the houses and carelessness of the people while burning candle. He appealed to each and every family to make proper installation of electrical wires etc. by skilled and certified electricians only. He said that most of the fire accidents here are caused by electrical spark due to loose contact etc.
Meanwhile, Tagin Cultural Society (TCS) appealed to the state government and District Administration to provide immediate relief fund to all the fire victims, especially the deceased family. TCS team met the colony dwellers and shared its grief and sorrow with the victims families. TCS prayed to almighty for eternal peace to souls of late mother and her two children.

AR conducts free medical camp for villagers
ITANAGAR, Feb 11: A free medical camp was conducted by 18 Assam Rifles under the aegis of 25 Sector Assam Rifles at Punyabhuni village on February 9 as part of DGAR MCA project.
Over 552 people, including adult, women and school going children from Punyabhuni and adjoining villages attended the camp and received medical treatment.
The Medical camp was inaugurated by Brig Rajinder Singh, Commander 25 Sector Assam Rifles. Colonel Rakesh Singh Chauhan, Commandant 18 Assam Rifles and S Roy Circle Officer Miao represented the civil administration.
The medical team was led by Deputy Commandant Jishnu Barua and Captain Sridevi Thapa of 18 Assam.
The 18 Assam Rifles also distributed 250 mosquito nets and few solar lanterns nets to the villagers under Military Civic Action programme on the same day. Distribution of mosquito nets in such remote area will help prevent malaria in the area, AR in a release informed. Educate the masses about HIV, Siram urges youth

PASIGHAT, Feb 11: Prevention of HIV is not the responsibility of Arunachal Pradesh State AIDS Control Society, Naharlagun alone but individual should contribute towards its prevention, said Education Minister Bosiram Siram while kicking off the Rock Concert under Multimedia Campaign on HIV/AIDS at Gandhi Chowk Market, Pasighat today.
Siram said that HIV which has no definite cure or vaccine pose challenge to all of us. It can be overcome only by creating awareness among the masses. He also asked the youth audience who turn up to the venue in large number to carry forward the message on HIV prevention to each and every household of the state so that people remain safe from HIV. The message on HIV generated through the platform of MMC should not be confined to people who attend the venue, he said. East Siang Deputy Commissioner R K Mishra stressed on need to create an enabling environment for the People Living with HIV so that they do not feel discriminated. PLHIV needs to be brought to the mainstreaming, he said. While appreciating Yumrin Nokpa for declaring his HIV status openly to the public, Mishra said that the voice of people like Yumrin Nokpa should be echoed in the entire state so that PLHIV people could contribute towards creating awareness on HIV.

ZPM distributes wheel chairs to disabled persons

ZIRO, Feb 11: Diibo ZPM Bamin Siri today distributed wheel chairs, crutches and walking sticks to old and disabled persons within his jurisdiction.
The ZPM accompanied by Mudang Tage ASM Tadu Chobing paid door to door visit at Mudang Tage village and distributed wheel chairs to two disable persons and walking sticks to a number of old persons.
In afternoon, he accompanied by ASMs Tilling Tanyo, Tamo Loder, Michi Richo and Michi Nimung visited Bamin, Michi, Siibe, Salang, Dapopogyang and Pare Ami villages where they distributed wheel chairs and crutches to five disabled and three partially disabled persons. They elderly persons were given walking sticks.
“I dreamt of a wheel chair for long but could not afford. Now, I thank ZPM Siri for fulfilling my long felt need,” said Tadu Laji one of the recipient of wheel chairs.
Another old man said, “It gave me more comfort than home made stick that I was using for long. This is the first and may be last one somebody would present me such a useful thing in my life”.

Concern over rising crime rate

RUKSIN, Feb 11: An increasing trend of criminal activities, especially delinquent crime and crime against women, caught the police and civil administration unaware even as the civil society is grappling with measures to tackle the myriad forms of crime in and around Pasighat.

Some sections of local people are approaching the district administration to take step to check the illegal activities before it goes beyond control. As such, the police, civil administration, teachers and parents were appealed to be sensitized on the ill effects of juvenile delinquency in the society. But, the authority is not awakening to act promptly to tackle the burning issue.
Some conscious citizens of the area point out the causative factors such as lack of parental guidance, negligence in upbringing of children by parents/guardians and teachers, exposure of raunchy videos, lack of emphasize in ethics and strict ruling in the educational institution.
Reports reveal that growing children are reportedly marching towards a bleak future as they have fallen into grip of detrimental practices like alcohol, drugs and sexual abuses. Consumption of alcohol and other contraband drugs is reportedly influencing them to commit offensive activities. It is high time for the society to rise to the occasion to save their children from going astray.
Meanwhile, the student unions have appealed the administration to issue executive order banning use of motor bikes (with gear) and mobile phone among the youths below 18 years and also the students at primary and secondary levels. Perhaps, it has executed it but trend is yet to come under control.
The local people now come to know that state government’s policy of police modernization is assurance only. The successive state governments, despite repeated appeals made by the local people, miserably failed to depute adequate police personnel to control the growing trend of criminal activities. The much hyped regional forensic science laboratory at Pasighat is not yet set up even after two years have passed from its announcement. Moreover, unholy nexus between some unscrupulous police officers and antisocial activists is alleged by the local people from time to time. Recently, angry women mob rocked Pasighat town by staging dharna at Pasighat police station. Their grievances stemmed on the fact that the police was inactive to book some culprits involved with sexual indulgence with minor girl at Pasighat. It was observed that police earlier had reluctant to arrest the culprits as the complainant did not accuse other than a woman. However, it accepted the complaint lodged afresh regarding the incident and arrested all other accused. But, the investigating officer, by going into a legal contradiction, was compelled to omit the complaint lodged earlier to fulfill the protestor’s demand.
The police, perhaps, were aware of the fact that their motto was to unearth the facts in the incident and to punish criminals under the law. Earlier too, police faced a lot of criticism for their alleged inactive role in dealing with some ‘interesting’ cases.
As a sigh of relief, the women activists of Adi Bane Kebang are conducting operation in the district against illegal selling of cheap liquor, narcotics and other drugs. They undoubtedly deserve appreciation for their efforts. It is expected to gain moral support from all quarters, but the outcome will depend on their dedication in the coming days.
Aalo Youth Festival, 2013 concludes
AALO, Feb 11: Prize distribution ceremony marked conclusion of the 10 days Aalo Youth Festival 2013 yesterday organized by All Aalo Youth Welfare Association (AAYWA).
Various sports competitions like marathon race, field and track events, literary competitions, felicitation to CBSE toppers, blood donation camp, HIV test etc. were organized during the festival.
Attending the function, Parliamentary Secretary (Home) Gadam Ete appreciated the AAYWA for conceiving the noble idea of organizing the festival smoothly. He disclosed that the state government under the leadership of Chief Minister Nabam Tuki is always ready to help the youths in welfare activities. ITANAGAR, Feb 11: Nyishi Students Union of Rajiv Gandhi University University conducted a number of educational awareness campaign at remote Kurung Kumey district from February 6 to 9.

The awareness camps were conducted at TT Govt. College, Nyapin and GHSS, Sangram on February 7 and 8 respectively. However, the camp at Koloriang could not be conducted due to board examination.
The campaign themed “each one teach one” included career counseling and personality development of the rural students. The NSURGU resource team comprised of six post graduate Nyishi Students of RGU, who included Bengia Tada, Tai Jatey, Karan Kholie, Toko Obi, Nangram Pentum, and Bengia Seema.
The presented through PowerPoint presentation on career after class 12, study technique and examination preparedness, adolescence education, women empowerment, ill effects of early marriage and politics and student.
The NSURGU team distributed career guidance books to the participants specially compiled for the programme.
The team interacted with the first batch student of the college and discussed problems being faced by them in the newly opened college. The team claims to have found lack of almost all amenities in the college. There are no proper classrooms, no libraries, no proper campus and almost nil accommodation for the teachers of the college which needs immediate attention of the authorities concerned.
The NSURGU team also visited many schools in the remote villages of the district during the campaign and expressed its concern over the pathetic condition of the Govt. run schools in the district.
“There is an utmost need of proper education policy since it has been witnessed that there is wastage of resources due to improper planning. Schools have been opened where there is no need at all; school buildings have been constructed in the middle of nowhere,” the visiting team said in a release. The teachers and students are compelled to work and study in the worst condition,” it calimed.
More than 300 students have benefited from the camps. The NSURGU expressed its gratitude to Nikam Development Foundation secretary Tai Gungte for his support and guidance during the campaign and All Nyishi Students Union for sponsoring the campaign and all those good people of Nyapin and Sangram who contributed in some way or other in making the camps a success.

Tagak takes charges as state BJP chief

Indu Yommin arrest case: Family members cry foul

PASIGHAT, Feb 11: The family member of Indu Yommin, who has been arrested by Pasighat police, have alleged that the EAC is using the police administration and thereby misusing his power. One Nongkong Yommin, a brother of Indu, in a statement alleged that the EAC (complainant) was forcing the police to arrest the victim (Indu) by leveling false and fabricated complaint against him.
Reacting on a news item appeared on this daily on February 7, wherein Arunachal Pradesh Civil Service Officers’ Association (APCSOA) vehemently condemned the attack on EAC Starlie Jamoh and sought strict action against Indu Yommin, the family men lamented that the officers and the police are manipulating the case.
Yommin has claimed that the discord between EAC Jamoh and Indu was ensued due to misdeed of the EAC’s wife, but the alleged EAC misinterpreted the sequence of the incident in order to save the wrong doer. The actual facts that aroused out of a motor accident is still in hiding, but the officers' association and others organizations condemn the incident of attack without knowing the realities.
The members of Yommin family are requesting office bearers of APCSOA and other clan based organizations not to condemn anyone without knowing the ground realities regarding the incident.

APATCYO condemns arrest of Darung
ITANAGAR, Feb 11: Arunachal Pradesh Abo Tani Clans Youth Organization (APATCYO) strongly condemned the arrest of Labour Commissioner Ojing Darung.

Drive against tinted car windows at Seppa
ITANAGAR, Feb 11: The East Kameng district police along with magistrate conducted drive against black tinted film on car windows at Seppa town on 9th of this month. The police team led by SI P Payang and town magistrate Ainstein Koyu with the help of CRPF personnel carried out the drive.
Black films were removed from 60 vehicles including government and private vehicles. The entire exercise was supervised by Deputy Superintendent of police S Singpho.
AAPC opposes bandh
ITANAGAR, Feb 11: The Aalo Area Peoples Committee (AAPC), West Siang district has decided not to support the 72 hours bandh call proposed by the Galo Students Union on February 12 in Galo dominated areas.
Both GSU and AGSU have no moral right to call bandh in connection with the Jaunary 10 Aalo incident, the Committee said adding that it would not tolerate bandh call at Aalo which may vitiate peace and tranquility and unity and integrity of Galo people.

Kena visits assembly building construction site
ITANAGAR, Feb 11: Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly Deputy Speaker Jomde Kena visited new assembly building construction site recently and expressed his satisfaction over the progress of work.
During his visit he also interacted with the company staff and assured to hand over the building by the last part of August next, according to an official release.
Committee on PR submits report
ITANAGAR, Feb 11: The Adhoc Committee on Panchayat Raj under the Chairmanship of Jomde Kena, Assembly Deputy Speaker has adopted the interim report, presented to Speaker which was accorded approval. The Committee after detail examination has recommended for convening of a Special Assembly Session for discussion on the Constitution of Panchayat Raj system of Arunachal Pradesh and to amend the Acts/Rules of Panchayat Raj system."
Village level volleyball competition
ITANAGAR, Feb 11: A village level volleyball competition was conducted by Jarkum and Yania Charitable Society under Nehru Yuva Kendra Itanagar at Chimpu on February 9 last.
Altogether eight teams participated the tournament in which Lukbia Youth Club beat Gangte Youth Club in the final match of the tournament.
Earlier, the inaugural programme was attended by Hake Tako, general secretary, Lok Sabha Youth Congress Arunachal West.
Demand baseless: ZPM
ITANAGAR, Feb 11: While condemning the repeated demand of the DAPF and KPF for transfer of the Damin BDO as baseless, Damin ZPM Bamo Saktar today said central schemes like BADP, MGNREGA, Hariyali scheme are implemented under the strict supervision of panchayat members as per laid down guidelines.
Allegation of fund embezzlement leveled against the BDO by the two organizations is not only tarnishing the image of reputed officer. Such mischievous tactics also utterly put obstacles in granting centrally sponsored schemes for backward people, the ZPM said in a release.

Now we want to know whether really the CMs Talent Award is still in implementation
or has been discontinued. If yes, what is the status of those toppers whose names
have been submitted to the authorities during the last academic years, if no, then
why it is repeatedly referred to in the policy and planning agendas of the government

When development becomes hurdle for citizen
Dear Editor,
Through your esteemed daily I would like to tell the hardship I have been facing
since the renovation work on drainage system of E-
But with the start of renovation work on drainage system, the provision I had has been removed (wooden frame) by the workers perhaps as per the work’s requirement. The renovation work has started long ago, it is continuing and it seems, it going to take more time to be completed. Right from that day to till today, in this whole period, I have been depriving of using my vehicle. The only provision I had for my vehicle movement has been removed by them. Despite this, neither the old provision is restored nor has a new or temporary provision been made in the place. Because of the situation my vehicle is stranded within the four wall of my compound and even in real emergency I can’t use my vehicle. This is completely avoidable and uncalled for. Under this hardship I appeal whoever concerned whether individual, entity or department to be really sensitive towards the perspective of public mobility in their developmental works. Hoping for a positive respond from all concerns.

Illegal hunting poses threat to wild animal, migratory birds

All living things, including human interact closely with environment and are interdependent on each other for survival. However, men alone among millions of living things on earth can cause deleterious effects to environment. Hence, there is an urgent need for creating environmental consciousness among masses to protect it. One must know the great danger that is waiting for all of us on this planet if due precautions are not taken to protect environment.
It was in the early eighties. I still remember of hunting birds along with my friends with the help of so called Giirii (local trap). There were also so many other trapping instruments which we used to trap birds and other species in the jungle, garden and also in paddy fields. At that time, our parents did not discourage us rather they appreciated our deeds, especially when we succeeded to kill a bird. In tribal society this activities are also considered as ‘sports’.
Migratory birds like wild pigeon, great Indian Hornbill, crows, whistlers, tree creepers and leaf birds etc which are found visiting Ziro in Lower Subansiri district and some other places of the state state are in serious trouble because of illegal hunting. These migratory birds eat insects etc and killing of these migratory birds might cause serious impact on the ecology. Killing and sale of such wild birds are reportedly rampant in some parts of the state despite standing prohibition order by the respective district authorities.
All kinds of wild birds and animal species in our state are on the verge of extinction. During my childhood in early 80s, crows were found available in Ziro. Today, the total population of crow will not be more than 100 as told by one senior resident of Ziro.
Over 200 different species of birds are found in our state.
Govt. and different local NGOs organized an awareness campaign few years back to stop such unlawful activities. But, to my knowledge, it did not work.
The Govt. of India introduced CCF-
I read an article in this dailies dated 8th Feb. 2013, under heading ”Indian birds under threat from the climate change” wherein it was mentioned that India has 466 indentified important birds areas (IBAs) till now. However, if early measures are not taken the IBAs will shrink day by day.
We must give up this hunting culture to protect wildlife. Think what will happen if there is no bird, no animal around us?
